The conclusion of EN 001

To be more exact, EN001 is officially my first formal English Course ever!! I don't have much academic background in America( I'm a citizen and I love this country as much as I love Korea) My father was an English teacher at female high school in Korea. He taught me a lot about English grammar, but it was a long time ago, and that was only what I got left out of writing skills which I don't remember much at all now. So I think I'm probably the one who has benefited the most out of EN001 since I hadn't practiced much English in a long time until I entered EN001. During the entire semester, what I have learned the most is how to write an essay. I still struggle with thesis, conclusion paragraph, in-class timed essay and all that. The most enjoyable aspects of the course I have found are once again an essay and evergreen chapters. The least enjoyable aspects of the course is the movie and the book Omnivore's Dillemma, it was interesting to know about food knowledge they have in there though. I'm not in situation where I can give advise to mewcomers, but if I have to, I will tell them to make a group of 3 or 4 students to help out one another to write an essay and study evergreen chapters togather. Each individual has different writing weaknesses and strengths so they can look out for one onother. What I wish someone had advised me when I started taking this course is the same thing I stated above.

portfolio essay.

For my portfolio evaluation, I decided to edit the first one and the third one. The reason I'm down with essay#1 is because Professor Simon suggested me to go for it when she gave my paper back and sat right next to me in class last week. And also, the first essay is the one that I got into a safe zone with. The reason for the third essay, I have a good feeling about this one even though that's usually how we feel before we all turn in our essays and later, it turns out to be messy with Professor Simon's bad , sarcastic comments on them in good ways, ok! However this is the one I dubble-checked with my favorite tutor to make sure everything is everything. Of course, i'm not expecting it to be perfect, but I'm expecting it to ensure me that I've swam close enough to be in a safe zone from the sharks. I'll find out when I get my revision back. I know i sound too confident and arrogant on this one, right? let me have it though.

i came to school at 6: 30 this mornning. for some reason, i couldn't sleep last night. around 5: 30, i was thinking like i should not fall asleep right now, i might not be able to get up even though alarm would go off at 6:00 i would go back to sleep. so i decided to come early. i learned this mornning that coming to school much early is not such a bad idea because it makes me  more calm and more prepared for class.

thinking back to the 1st day of school, i realized that my writing skills have somewhat been improved. in the beginning, i didn't know what it meant to use good sentence structure or to add supporting details. now that i have had a taste of eng 001, i'm not so lost anymore. can i say that i'm 100% cured in my weakness? no, i cannot. i still have a lot of room for improvement. i'm going to do my best for my porfolio evaluation with what i have learned so far, and for the final in class timed-essay, i will review the way i did so bad on midterm exam, and won't make the same mistakes.

writing process

first, i give myself a little time to think about possible subject that i can write the most out of it and then i think about things that are most familiar and connected to the topic that i picked. second, i start jotting ideas that i have in mind to see if i can go deeper in details then i select ideas that are most connected to the topic. third, i make outlines with ideas that i selected from jotting. last, i start making an essay using those outlines then i proofread when my essay is complete.

the food horror

In movie, i saw so many disgusting things. The major parts i can clearly visualize are how chickens and cows were being handled, and things like hormone growth, antibiotics in the feed, and cows eating corn even though they evolve to eat grass. And, also a little boy's death after eating a burger. What i learn through this movie, the food we eat is dirty, unsanitary, tainted and contaminated. even veggie is not safe. And i learned that our government is dominated by those huge industries that lobby politicians to get what they want. well, now i'm trying to change my diet to organic foods little by little. god, i don't want to get sick. this E,coli thing really scares me.

The routine......

Waking up each mornning is a process on its own for me. First, i let my loud alarm clock wake me up at 6:00 am. The bright sunshine and light beaming through my curtains also assist me with waking up. I lay in bed for approximately 5 mins looking up at the ceiling and thinking about the day ahead of me. Next, i get out of bed and quickly enter the kitchen to put on a pot of coffee. while the coffee is brewing, i head to the bathroom to take care of my personal hygiene. By the time I am finisfed, my coffee is ready. I then go outside, sit down in the chair on my patio and smoke a marlboro cigarette. Smoking and drinking coffee taste the best that way. Finally, I am ready to put on my clothes. Choosing an outfit is very simple for me. I am no fashionista! As long as my clothes are clean and crisp, I am satisfied with my appearance. Once I am dressed, I grab my keys and bag which has school supplies inside of it. I then leave out the door, get inside of my car and drive to school. I always try to go to college by 7:40 am. When i get there, i smoke one last cigarett until 7:50am, knowing that class starts at 8:00am. At last I am ready to enter the building and go to class. This process ensures that I'm not late for school. Keeping up with this process has allowed me to maintain a flawless attendance record.
